The reality

The bottleneck is usually the same: available power

Grid operators work with queues based on order of application. In many regions it takes four to ten years before a new large-scale grid connection or upgrade is in place. Anyone who wants to start in 2027 needs to have applied already.

The first step is small. You apply for a large-scale grid connection or lock in contracted transmission capacity. No investment, no obligation — you are simply reserving a spot in a queue that keeps growing longer.

Applying costs nothing. Waiting does. That spot in the queue will only become more valuable with time.
