Den Helder Airport wants to be ready for electric aircraft and VTOLs, but like most regional airports it faces grid congestion that blocks any increase in grid capacity until 2031. Waiting for the grid is not an option. The airport needed a way to lay the physical foundation for electric aviation today, while continuing normal operations without a single minute of disruption.
How NRG2fly solved it
NRG2fly advised a behind-the-meter approach and took on the role of independent technical advisor and project coordinator. In three days, a complex airside cabling operation was executed including a full temporary power takeover of the main building using redundant 400 kVA generator capacity, with zero downtime. NRG2fly coordinated a consortium of five specialised parties on the ground and is now connected to Den Helder Airport as Charge Point Operator, involved from strategy all the way through to SLA.
